Introducing: I Feel That Way Too đź’›

Honest stories about identity, relationships, and the messiness of being human.

Dear Community,

A lot has changed since the last time I wrote to you. Some of you have been following my work since I co-founded Awaken, the DEI company I quietly sunset a few years ago without ever really telling anyone (more on that next week).

But today, I want to share something I’ve been pouring my heart into for the last year…

I’m launching a podcast!!

It’s called I Feel That Way Too.

It’s a narrative podcast (think This American Life) exploring life’s trickiest questions. From “Who am I without my job?” to “Can we be friends if we disagree politically?”, we’re diving into the messy middle through intimate stories and honest conversations with experts and everyday people.

When I started the project, I was in deep grief and longing. I felt untethered, floating around trying to understand my place in this world and where I'm headed next amidst the world falling apart.

I craved a space where I can be truly honest—not the kind we perform, but the real, unfiltered, raw, scary kind. A space where I can be messy and unfinished. I wanted to feel less alone. And I wanted to create something that I can be proud of.

And I can tell you with confidence: I am. I am so incredibly proud of what we created—and how we created it.

In a time marked by so much collective despair, trauma, and fear, this podcast has been a source of light and refuge for me. A place to exhale. Hope in practice. And maybe, it will be for you too.

Here’s a little peek at the episodes that just dropped:

  • Ep 1: Am I a Bad Daughter? (Listen or Watch)

Joined by author and therapist Sahaj Kaur Kohli (@browngirltherapy on IG), I talk about the complicated relationship I have with my mom, and the grief, guilt, and love we carry. Is sacrifice the ultimate expression of love, or an outdated narrative that keeps us from choosing ourselves?

  • Ep 2: Was I His Love or Fetish? (Listen or Watch)

This nuanced episode explores the layered complexities of interracial relationships. My good friend Christine and I begin by unpacking the controversial question that is echoing through the zeitgeist: “Why are so many Asian women with white men?” What do you think? Can love ever just be… love?

Start with whichever one resonates most. I’d love to hear what comes up for you.

I can’t wait for you to tune in and be a part of this beautiful project. And please help amplify the podcast by sharing it online or telling your friends and family about it.

As always, thank you for being on this journey with me.

In community,

Michelle

P.S. I’ve renamed this newsletter to align with my new podcast, I Feel That Way Too. If you originally signed up for organizational DEI content and this next chapter doesn’t feel like the right fit, no hard feelings at all—you’re always welcome to unsubscribe. But if you’re curious to see where this goes, I’d be honored to have you along for the ride. ❤️
